A lot of folks around here have fruit trees. There are a lot of varieties of apricots and I learned more about them every year. Some are prized for making jam, some are wonderful when they're fresh or grilled, but for me I will always remember the taste of apricots that came off my parents backyard tree.
It was a big tree and they didn't know anything about pruning and so sometimes the bows would get so heavy that they would break off. Sometimes we call that ground picking. When the branch would break and we pick it up off the ground before all the critters got to them.
Before actually the um small animals and the bees and who knows what else the worms because even in the San Fernando Valley growing up before I could get to Sonoma County, there was a lot of life I love apricots, even moms from the backyard. Savoring Sonoma. I'm Clark Wolf for KRCB.
