In our inaugural session of The Trust and Democracy series, Katherine Corcoran, former Associated Press bureau chief, shed light on the grave dangers confronting journalists today. Addressing an audience at Santa Rosa’s Burbank Auditorium, she recounted the tragic fate of reporters in Mexico who have been killed for their work, along with the pervasive fear that stifles communication with sources. Corcoran underscored the urgent need for credible journalism in both Mexico and the U.S., encouraging the public to seek out trustworthy news sources amid a climate of skepticism. She also highlighted the vital role of local journalism in nurturing community connections, reinforcing its importance in today’s media landscape.
