

We remember Austin, Texas singer/songwriter Jimmy LaFave three years after his passing. We’re proud to dust off our 2010 interview with Jimmy and combine it with some of our favorite of his tunes. In the interview, Jimmy spoke about the difference between “good” music and the kind you hear on commercial radio, the loving folk music community, and his relationship with the Woody Guthrie family.

Our guests this week on Art of the Song are Patrice Pike and Wayne Sutton. Based in Austin, Texas, Pike & Sutton is a musical partnership that began in high school. Equally anchored by Patrice’s powerhouse vocals and Wayne’s electrifying guitars, the two are best known as co-founders of ‘90s jam band Sister Seven.

This week on Art of the Song we bring you a LIVE from Caffè Lena show featuring Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen. Since their marriage in 1989, Steve and Cindy have been traveling, performing and recording music together. A Caffè Lena tradition, for many years, they have graced the stage at Caffè Lena on the First Saturday of the New Year. In the second half of the show for the Creativity Corner Steve Gillette discuses the creative process in the writing of Darcy Farrow, a song that he co-wrote with Tom Campbell. The song has been recorded by numerous artists including Ian & Sylvia, John Denver, Bill and Bonnie Hearne and Nanci Griffith.
