This week on Art of the Song our guest is Livingston Taylor. Born in Boston and raised in North Carolina, Livingston is the fourth child in a very musical family that includes Alex, James, Kate, and Hugh. He picked up his first guitar at the age of 13, which began a 50-year career that has encompassed performance, songwriting, and teaching.
Livingston recorded his first record at the age of 18 and has continued to create original songs that have earned him listeners worldwide. According to a quote from his “Best of Liv Live” album, “It’s true, I worked hard and practiced a lot, but above all else, I was held by a loving, generous universe: my creative seed fell on plowed ground and got to grow.” We visited with Liv backstage before his concert at the Falmouth Academy in Massachusetts.

This week on Art of the Song our guest is singer-songwriter Danny O’Keefe. Probably best known for his 1970s hit Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues, his songs have been covered by numerous artists including Elvis Presley, Allison Krause, Jackson Browne, Judy Collins and Willie Nelson.
We spoke with Danny about his concept album, Looking Glass and The Dreamers, to be released in the Fall of 2020. The album began as a dream Danny had in 1968 that after many years has now manifested as a musical history of the Nez Perse Indians of the Pacific Northwest.

We feature his EP This is the Light, which consists of 5 songs written and recorded during the 2020 coronavirus quarantine. Andrew says, [quote’] “The pandemic has obviously caused anxiety, pain, and frustration for many people, so it’s hard for me to relish in the fact I am able to stay at home and be creative, but I’d be lying if I said this whole experience has not been fruitful for my art.”
All earnings from Andrew’s This is the Light EP will be donated to MusiCares’ COVID relief fund, which is affiliated with the Grammys to help musicians who are suffering financially due to the pandemic.
