A highway sign in Caspar, near Fort. Bragg.
The California Highway Patrol announced that a portion of state Highway 1 is closed in Mendocino County on Tuesday due to unsafe road conditions.

The highway is closed from MacKerricher State Park to Bruhel Point Road because of flooding and a possible slide.

The closure spans nearly 10 miles of the Pacific Coast Highway. It comes as an atmospheric river blankets the area, bringing up to 5 inches of rain to the region, the National Weather Service said.

A flood watch remains in effect for the Mendocino Coast until 10 p.m.
No estimated time of reopening has been provided, the CHP said.

Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

Caltrans asks motorists to track current road conditions at https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ or by calling 1 (800) 427-7623.
