Emergency responders survey the scene of a successful water rescue in flood waters on
Slusser Road near the Sonoma County Airport on Sunday, 21 December, 2025.

The North Bay Area was lashed with heavy rain over the weekend.

Some areas received over four inches of precipitation by Monday morning.

"Areas around Sea Ranch are up to about 5 inches," said Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. "Santa Rosa proper, we are in about the 3 to 3.5 inch range. Some other areas around the North Bay, Napa looks to be in the 1.5 to 2-inch range."

On Sunday night, Sonoma County first responders rescued a stranded driver near the Sonoma County Airport.

Their sedan stalled in rising flood waters on Slusser Road around 11 PM Sunday.

In West Sonoma County, Green Valley Road at Green Valley Creek; Mark West Station at Starr Road; and Dell Road and the Westside Road intersection remain closed due to local flooding.

Behringer said there's more rain on the other side of Monday's lull.

"So, Tuesday afternoon into the early evening hours," Behringer said. "We'll see widespread heavy rainfall, pretty much across the North Bay and the rest of the Bay area as well."

Despite the strong weekend rains, the Russian River remains well below flood level in Sonoma County, and is not forecast to flood.

The Russian River did reach minor flood levels at Hopland in Mendocino County, and a flood watch remains in place through the Christmas holiday.

Behringer said the big concern for Tuesday are high winds.

"So we could see winds during the overnight hours up to I would say 45, 50 miles per hour in some of the mountain areas," Behringer said. "Then along the coastline, we could see even higher, 50 to 60 miles per hour."

Behringer said winds in the valley floors could still reach into the 45 mile an hour range. Rain is expected over the next 48 hours across much of Sonoma County, which Behringer said will likely bring more local flooding.

"[To] areas like...Santa Rosa Creek, Mark West, Martinelli Road, some of the stuff west between Santa Rosa and Guerneville," Behringer said.

Another two inches of rain is possible for Santa Rosa by Wednesday.
