The Bay Area Ridge Trail passes across national and regional parklands, public open space, many private properties, and, in the North Bay, a handful of state parks—most of which are threatened with closure in July.
If you're not acquainted with the Bay Area Ridge Trail, its North Bay director, Dee Swanhuyser of Occidental, offers this short summary description. You can also see a complete map fo the trail here.
Many portions of the planned Bay Area Ridge Trail cross privately held lands, but Swanhuyser says her organization has established a good track record in meeting and collaborating with a number of those property owners, either to create a right-of-way for trail users, or in some cases, to open the way for public acquisition of the lands.
